  • Hello -

Ok, if you're looking to set up Outlook Express to use the e-mail address given to you by your ISP, I can give you a hand.

What you'll need to do first is to call up your ISP and get their tech support department on the phone and ask them the following questions:
    1. What is your e-mail username? (typically the full e-mail address)
    2. What is your e-mail password?
    3. What is the incoming mail server? (typically looks like mail.YOURISP.com, where YOURISP.com is the name of your provider)
    4. What is the outgoing mail server? (typically looks like smtp.YOURISP.com, where YOURISP.com is your provider's name)
    5. Does the outgoing mail server require authentication?

Ok, armed with the above info, you're ready to configure OE. Open OE, go to Tools, then Accounts. Click on Add or Create new account. The new account wizard will open and walk you through what you need to do.

Off the top of my head, the first thing it asks is for the display name that you'd like to appear in other people's inboxes when you send out a message. Then it'll ask for your e-mail address. Next screen asks for the answer to question #1 (e-mail username), and then #2 (e-mail password). Either on this screen or the next one you'll see places to type in the incoming and outgoing mail servers (questions 3 & 4). Keep clicking on Next or Continue until you finish.

Now, if your ISP's tech support dept answered "yes" to question #5, then you'll need to go back to Tools, then Accounts, and edit the account you just created. From the window that appears, click on the Servers tab, and look down near the bottom of the screen. You should see a little check box for the outgoing mail server requiring authentication. Check it if question #5 is yes.

That's it! Hope this helps! Good luck!
